MoP Hunter pre-raid gear (version 1.0)

So after the dust settles on the marathon of levelling (yes, I shall be one of ‘those’ people who are going to stay up all night playing a game.. an AWESOME game! – in your face!) the first thing I will do (in game that is, I’m sure there will be sleep to be had, food to be eaten etc) is start to grind out my gear in preparation for the following reset when the first raid (Heart of Fear) will be unlocked.

There are some good gear lists floating around where you can see all the gear that will drop for hunters, or just all decent gear – and that is all well and good, but I like to structure lists (if not for this blog, than for myself) so I can see where I need to go, what I need to kill, and what I need to wear.

SO! here it is, the first draft of my pre-raid gear (note; this is not a best in slot list for MoP, it is pre raid).

*Just as another note, there is a quest reward neck piece [yet that will be a chunk of questing to get to it] that is epic and quite tasty, there are also some crafted items I don’t cover and I don’t include any of the valor-rep items. This is a list to dungeon grind.

Helm – Swarmcall Helm

This baby has it all, crit strike in the secondary stats and a meta socket (not to mention, the other gem slot is red, and the socket bonus is 180 agility – not too shabby).
It is dropped by Commander Ri’mok in Heroic Gate of the Setting Sun

Neck – Scorched Scarlet Key

A neck piece is a good place as any to start getting some o’ dat hit and expertise we will be required to have for raiding. The item is available from Flameweaver Koegler  in Heroic Scarlet Halls

Shoulders – Harlan’s Shoulders

Nice mix of mastery and crit for the secondary stats and a red socket with a crit socket bonus. This can be dropped by Armsmaster Harlan (they are his shoulders after all) in Heroic Scarlett Halls

Back – Aerial Bombardment Cloak

A nice splash of hit and crit make this my choice for cloak pre-raid, it drops off General Pa’valak in Heroic Siege of Niuzao Temple

Chest – Galedodger Chestguard

There are a few chest pieces to chose from, and another good choice would be Deadeye Chain of the Golden Lotus – however the red socket and +60 agi socket bonus makes this my personal pick; so throw this bad boy on your chesticles. Pick this up from Wing Leader Ner’onok in Heroic Siege of Niuzao Temple

Wrist – Bladed Smoke Bracers

Getting more expertise mixed with crit will hopefully make sure we don’t have to be over-the-top with reforging.. either way, nice amount of agi and crit on these

Look at this poser trying to be me, not to mention the lurker in the background

bracers; dropped by Sha of Violence (must be one of the ’50 sha-des of grey’) in H Ahn’Qiraj

Hands – Archer’s Precision Grips

decent set of gloves with expertise on them to get ever closer to that magic cap. Dropped by Commander Vo’Jak in Heroic Siege of Niuzao Temple

Belt – Impaler’s Girdle

You have to keep your pants on when getting down to business (raiding business, not sexy time business… with sexy time belts just get in the way) and what a better way to do that then using the Impaler’s Girdle. More expertise (you can see I have thrown that priority up there, can always reforge excess to hit) and a nice chunk of crit. Dropped by Striker Ga’dok in Heroic Gate of the Setting Sun

Legs – Hopping Mad Leggings

Easily one of the best item names we will deal with early on in the expansion, make sure you throw these ‘cranky pants’ on to cover your shame while enjoying the hit and crit stats. Also has a yellow socket with a +60 crit socket bonus, so the crit just keeps going up with deadly-esque gems. These bad boys drop from Hoptallus in Heroic Stormstout Brewery.

Feet – Treads of Fixation

Some boots were made for walking, and some boots were made for Christopher Walken. These boots were made for stompin’. More hit and crit round out the secondary stats, as well as a red socket awarding a +60 agi socket bonus. Tres bien. Walk over and knock them off Raigonn in Heroic Gate of the Setting Sun.

These are not the boots we are looking at, yet still probably hunter loot.

Rings – Signet of Dancing Jade and Pulled Grenade Pin

Expertise/crit and crit/mastery respectively, this duo will help to hit those caps while delivering some punch. Pimp out yo’ hands by picking up the Signet from Liu Flameheart in Heroic Temple of the Jade Serpent, and the Grenade Pin from Saboteur Kip’tilak in heroic Gate of the Setting Sun.

Now we get to the good bit, sexy weapon slots… (note, that does INDEED say slots, don’t freak out from your double take.. dirty minded reader you..)

Weapon – Klatith, Fangs of the Swarm

There are a few weapons available, all 463, all same dps. They are all 3.00 speed, with the only exception being Yan-Zhu’s Pressure Valve (but guns are so noisy, and gun violence seems to be an obvious problem in today’s society. So let us say NO to guns!). Klatith is packing some crit and haste, and at a 476 ilvl, it is the highest quality ranged wep we can get pre raid. It is indeed a bow, granting trolls their expertise bonus. Tabana from WHH has kindly informed me that the bonus is not bow specific, and it is indeed for just ranged weps in general. Bows are still my choice. Go pick up this pretty purple premium plum puckering princess from Raigonn in Heroic Gate of the Setting Sun.

My choice of trinkets; there are a few on offer (including one dedicated to Gerp from ‘The Instance’), yet here are my choices.

Trinket #1 – Searing Words or Flashing Steel Talisman

Neither trinket has an agi bonus on equip, yet looking at searing winds, the crit is very appetising (around 1.41% of crit provided) and the proc of 3,386 agility for 25 seconds isn’t too shabby either. The Flashing Steel Talisman has an on-use proc of 4,232 agi for 15 seconds (on a 1.5 min CD), as well as having a large amount of hit. This should allow a little bit of breathing room now we have to account for 2 caps (expertise and hit). Grab Searing Words from Darkmaster Gandling in Heroic Scholomance, nd pick up Flashing Steel Talisman from Commander Durand in Heroic Scarlet Monastery.

Trinket #2 – Windswept Pages

You can’t really look past the one good trinket that does indeed HAVE a standard agi component; a passive 847 is very, very nice. The haste proc isn’t my favourite, but it definitely won’t be a dps loss. Get a read of this (get it, windswept pages?!) from Lorewalker Stonestep in heroic Temple of the Jade Serpent.

The trinkets are subject to change, these are my personal preliminary choices, yet I am sure I will play around with later and find out the theoretical BiS (not going to lie, it felt a tad weird typing ‘I will play around with female dwarf’).

Here is a funky table where you can see all the mentioned items, the dungeon they are found in, plus the boss they drop from.

Gate of the Setting Sun will be a first visit once you have the required ilvl ;)

Dungeon Item slot Boss X
Gate of the setting sun Helm Commander Ri’mok
Gate of the setting sun Belt Striker Ga’dok
Gate of the setting sun Feet Raigonn
Gate of the setting sun Ring Sanpteir Kip’tilak
Gate of the setting sun Bow Raigonn
Scarlet Halls Shoulders Armsmaster Harlan
Niuzao Temple Neck Flameweaver Koegler
Niuzao Temple Back General Pa’valak
Niuzao Temple Chest Wing Leader Ner’onok
Niuzao Temple Hands Commander Vo’jak
Ahn’Qiraj Wrists Sha of Violence
Stormstout Brewery Legs Hoptallus
Temple of Jade Serpent Ring Liu Flameheart
Temple of Jade Serpent Trinket Lorewalker Stonestep
Scholomance Trinket Darkmaster Gandling
Scarlet Monastary Trinket Commander Durand

This second table is for all of you ‘copy-pastas’ out there (mmm… pasta). You are welcome.

Thanks to Samigina for pointing out that I looked over the Epic bow from Gate of the Setting Sun, Cheers mate :)

Release dates, bucket lists, and bows

Now that we all know the release date for MoP, my feelings are on a one way track – awesome that it is closer than some people would have you think, and that time is slipping away to get some shiz done!

I have seen fellow bloggists have their bucket lists, and although I have some things that I would indeed like to finish off, I have never constructed a list exactly… this will most likely be my ‘get done in the few weeks to go’ list, I will have to work on a more definitive list for my WoW career.

~ My Pre-MoP Bucket List ~

This is where I keep my list

Raid Metas

I really want to get all of this out of the way –  I have just never gotten around to it! Not really concerned about the rewards, it is more the completionist in me that wants to open the dungeons and raids tab in MoP and only see MoP achievements to get. Maybe it will create a new sort of focus…
I managed to finish of Ulduar 10/25, so I just have a couple more to get rid of in ICC 10/25, Malygos in 25m and a couple of 25 naxx achs.

Level my other two hunters to 85

I currently have one of these bad mofo’s sitting at level 80 waiting for a Herald of the Titans run that should be going down in two weeks. The other I play every now and again for an hour or so, I think it is around 47 at the time of this article. There is a chance of one of these being left at a certain level (either 80, or in the case of my low level toon; 70) for some twink fun, but that is yet to be decided. The level 80 toon needs a name/race/gender change – When I created it, it was just as a joke to put in a guild that has some mates that I like to keep in touch with. It is a female blood elf named Syleuq (Quelys backwards)… I would like to make it a troll like my main, and call it ‘Quelington’ – Hunt like a sir. The lower level hunter is undead and called Quel, which is totally badass. [I now have one of them at 85, Quel. The other (Syleuq) shall stay at lvl 80 as a twink]

Max all professions

I have everything except Blacksmithing and Inscription maxed across my various alts. Having maxed proffessions is just so much better than not – oh you want some pots? no problem! glyphs? don’t mention it! etc.

Legendary awesomeness

I am waiting on one binding to drop for thunderfury, as well as getting the mats together for sulfuras – yes I am aware we cannot equip it, but that mofo shall shit proudly in a bank spot (or in void storage) to remind me that all weapons are indeed hunter weapons. Need to start running Sunwell… dang bow drop rates…

Farm some mount drops

Things like Kara, Vortex Pin, and Stonecore all drop some awesome mounts – all three can be soloed as a Hunter I believe, so time to dust off the ol’ solo boots. They weren’t only made for walking – they were made for pwnigng.

Kill more alliance

I would like to end up reaching 250k honourable kills, however I have realised it has taken me around a year to get 50k… so I doubt I pvp enough to reach that mark. I am closing in on the 100k at least, and I guess that is something.

Get organized for MoP!

This involves spending more time on the beta sorting some finer details out, getting a few mates from within my guild to be ready to smash out dungeons on release day, farm/buy a crap-tonne of mats for pots, food, flasks etc. Get money ready for that mount with the reforger, make sure I have time set aside in RL etc. There are a few things to finish off, like picking who shall stay and who shall go in my stable and also clearing out banks and void storage. Minus the legendaries I mentioned, I will most likely sell/delete all melee weapons I have. I also have to get rid of my excess gem stock…

I am sure there are many more things that I will be doing/having fun with. More beta time is needed, yet I am flat out IRL for the next three weeks… this should allow me just enough time to have a good session or two in the beta :)

At this point I am just having fun – We have been farming H Madness for a while, and I am lucky enough to only be chasing 2 pieces of BiS loot… add writing up my BiS lists to my bucket list… (H Madness bow is sexy)

Speculation on a world (of warcraft) full of legends

I would to first like to direct your attention to a post I did a while back on legendaries of the game – I was aiming at showing reasons why we hunters should get our own legendary: you can view the post here.

9 Legendary weapons have graced the game (10 if you count the Naxx staff in Vanilla – that no one really does. Also counting the dual legendary weapons [warglaives, DS daggers] as singular legendary items) and only ONE of them had any use to us at all. Now as a pure dps class we don’t really have a lot of options as of our role – which is why (I guess) we never were really solid candidates for a legendary – we are a ranged class that isn’t a caster. With WoWhead last month releasing an article on their speculation on which class will be getting the legendary for Mists of Pandaria, it has been datamined that it may indeed be everyone. Now thisis just datamined – so it is not yet set in stone.. Yet part of me cannot help begin the QQ gears rolling…

Will we be getting something Hunter specific?

QQ 1: Not hunters?

So if it IS for everyone, then we will have gone through Vanilla plus 4 expansions where hunters got a look in (as a class) once – in a tier that only very dedicated guilds killed, and due to the very low drop chance, bugger all hunters ever got while it was relevant. As I stated in my previous post, an agility polearm would have been great – yet hunters not using melee weapons as stat sticks totally throws that out the window. I only mentioned ferals, as they haven’t really gotten any legendary love either, yet they have other specs that COULD have gotten legendaries, we have not.

QQ 2: Everyone?

So not only is it not just hunters, but it may be everyone? I thought legendaries are supposed to be legendary. They aren’t supposed to be a common item. An obvious counter-point to this is the speculation that the MoP legendary will be multi-tier; as in you will have to work on it throughout the expansion (which is a great idea). Dragonwrath was for every dps caster (which is a large population of raiders, pretty much half the dps really) and look how common they are these days? Is that really a good thing? I don’t want them to be impossible to get, yet it feels like the prestige is waning.

QQ 3: Who gets it?

IF this is for everyone, and IF a portion of it worked like any other legendary in the past 2 expansions, then there will be massive guild drama. If there is indeed items like a legendary shield up for grabs, and only one person can progress during a portion of the legendary at a time, then tanks are a great candidate. Personally I highly doubt I would be an option for the first legendary in my 10 man team if only one person can progress at  a time. I realise that there will be less drama in certain teams/guilds – yet I can admit that I will be a little bit of a sook (for example, our first kill of heroic madness consisted of 2 rogues with legendaries and 2 casters with legendaries.. and yours truly) and I know many others who don’t get selected to work on the legendary (if this is how it operates) will not be thrilled (Don’t lie, we all love loot and epeen). Now there is the possibility that, say, one person can work on a certain stage of the legendary at a time, yet since it is across the whole expac it will give you something to continue to grind in the early tiers for your guild (yet that gets back into QQ 2 with people getting it too easily).
This was just 3 points that I feel are quite obvious – we can all argue back and forth, yet it is obvious WoW is gravitating towards the more casual (and larger) portion of their player base. Is this a bad thing? I don’t really think so – except when they start messing with heroics and making normal raids too easy, but I will save that QQ for another day.

Hopefully we will get more legendary details soon, but we will have to wait and see.

Don’t forget to checkout WoWHeads post, as well as Lae’s breakdown on the speculation.

At least I got the madness mount… now to farm H rags.. What else to do before MoP? I think I better make a bucket list..
